11.27.2023 - 12.01.2023
Last week at METES, there was a fantastic exchange of insights and inspiration. Despite the sudden drop in temperature, METES remains a place for learning and growth. We strive for daily growth through various activities: a one-word-a-day reflection in our language during Check-in, retrospecting our day during Check-out, Meister sessions with life mentors sharing their perspectives and problem-solving approaches, PSC sessions on identifying and resolving issues, Life & its challenge sessions that encourage self-reflection, Metaverse sessions as a testament to peer-learning where one teaches about digital topics studied over the week, and documenting METES history through newsletters. All culminating in earning an NFT certificate... These sessions and records exist thanks to the 'Makers' who transform life from passive to active, 'Meisters' who are life seniors in various fields and industries, and 'Moderators' who lead sessions with penetrating questions and prepare all these and other stakeholders. Now, with just two weeks left in this block, let's finish strong. |

l 11.28(Tue) Heejin Choi, [Life & Its Challenges] #8: Connecting with Myself
We held a session on the theme 'Connecting with Myself', where we recognized the need for quality time with oneself. We explored who has been hard on us in our lives and whether we can forgive them now, and conducted an activity of writing letters to shed negative emotions. Participants stood in the center, taking turns to speak about each other's strengths, admirable qualities, and areas of respect, offering encouragement and a chance to understand oneself better. It's important to have dedicated time for self-discovery. Are you all taking time for yourselves? Reflecting on this could be a good way to wrap up 2023! |

l 11.28(Tue) Hyesung Won (CEO at Yulip): Lunch Talk with Makers
For our lunch talk, we had Hyeseong Won, the CEO of Yullip, who started as a solo entrepreneur and ventured into Amazon. 'We don't sell cosmetics, we sell sincerity', resonated deeply. Hearing about her journey from starting with a crowdfunding platform to expanding internationally with desperation and sincerity, I realized that a CEO's authenticity can indeed be transmitted to customers. Her courage and focus during the challenging times of raising a child and managing a business were enlightening. We were grateful for the insights she shared during the lunch talk and the following session. |

l 11.28(Tue) Aiden Jung (CEO at Freshcode): Lessons Learned from Freshcode
Aiden Jung, CEO of Fresh Code, who achieved annual sales of 10 billion won over 7 years with a salad delivery system, shared valuable insights from his recent bankruptcy filing and a new beginning. Although the business might have been seen as a reference for failure, the stories of retrospection and learning he shared made it an even more anticipated session. He learned about growth-centric management during his 7-year journey, realizing that 'value is defined by the market, but sometimes it's not just that'. He emphasized the importance of building a solid foundation in business essentials before adding value. He also stressed that managing a growing company within controllable limits and using capital wisely is crucial, as the success formula for business is not fixed. Inspirational were his thoughts on the role of founders in making objective and bold actions, especially in investor-backed businesses, and the importance of decision-making capacity. We thank and support Meister in his new challenges for creating such an impactful session. |

We invited Garam Kim, the owner of 'Hermann's Garden', a specialty tea shop, for a special tea session. We learned how she established premium tea culture in Korea and explored British tea culture. Tasting Assam and Darjeeling teas, milk tea, and scones, we appreciated the flavors and differences, making it a healing session. It was fun learning about Britain, the country of tea! Let's go for an afternoon tea set next time! |
